Overglaze painting
Once a porcelain has been fired twice it is ready to be painted in overglaze. The decoration is painted onto the glazed surface and subsequently baked in at around 900 degrees Centigrade in what is known as enamel firing.
Meissen porcelain painters are masters of their trade and specialise in defined themes such as chinoiseries or flower, figure and landscape painting. All the colours used are formulated in the Manufactory’s own laboratory and only used by painters at the Manufactory.
